いやー、これは面白い！
ここまでのクオリティーで展覧会がオンラインで開催できるのでしたら、コロナ禍のこの時代、もうこれからはこの様式が、少なくとも今後しばらくの間は定着するのではないでしょうか。
僕にとって初めて参加するオンライン展覧会、VIRTUAL ART FAIR 2021 が、2021年4月1日から始まりました。
18か国から37人のアーティストが参加して、2021年6月1日までの2ヶ月間、開催されます。
日本人は僕一人だけなので、頑張らなきゃ？いけませんね。

始まったばかりですので、感想もまだまだこれからというところですが、ぱっと思うところを少しだけまとめますと、アーティスト側にとってのメリットは、作品の搬入・搬出にかかわる輸送業者との手続きが不要で輸送コストもかからない、オープニング・レセプションに出席するために現地に出向かなくてもよいなど、まあそういった脱炭素、非移動、非接触、というあたりでしょうか。
それから、うまく表現できませんが、世界中誰がどこにいても平等に観れるという、何かピュアでフェアな感じがするんです。
つまり、僕の言いたいことは、垣根がないと言いますか、フラットであると言いますか、お高くとまっていないとでも言いましょうか、さらに言えばリベラルな感じさえしますが、例えば皆さんは、ギャラリーを訪れた時に、何か冷たいクールな感じがして敷居が高いな、僕などが入っていいのかな、入るのに何だか躊躇するな、緊張するな、勇気が要るなと思ったことはありませんか？
僕などは、これまでに何度もそのような思いをしました。
もう様々な業種、業界で、これだけイノベーションが行われ、世の中が大きく変わってきているのですから、そうした旧態依然とした因習、風習、しきたり、まあ言い方は何でもいいんですが、もうそういうのは絵画の世界でもやめて、是非フラットにしませんか、ということなんです。
そこでパンデミックの作年から、僕が具体的に構想していることを、下に英語で少し書きましたので読んでください。

話が飛びましたが、逆に、オンラインの展覧会には、もちろんデメリットもあります。
まずは、何と言っても実物の作品を観たり接したりすることができない、作品を観てくださった方の生の声や感想を聞けない(ただしオンラインでもチャット交流はできるようになっています)、他のアーティストとの交流や出会いがない、展覧会を通して、その国や街の文化を知る貴重な機会を失う、というところでしょうか。

でもこれからさらにあと数年は覚悟しなければならないコロナ禍の時代において、みんながそれぞれの制約の中でこれだけ我慢を重ねながら、明日への希望を何とかつなぎとめて必死に生きている、そうしたこの特異な状況の中にあっては、この方法が昨年から世界のアート関係者が模索してきた解の一つであるように思います。
今回のパンデミックに、いち早く反応したニューヨークのギャラリーの動向をだいぶ注視してきましたが、やはりこの解を軸として動いています。

It is my pleasure to inform you that VIRTUAL ART FAIR 2021 organized by CONTEMPORARY ART STATION opened on April 1st, 2021.
The Art Show is held by the London-based organization from April 1st to June 1st, 2021.
This is my first participation in Virtual Exhibition/Art Fair in my artist career, that’s why I’m very excited!
You can find my eight artworks from last year “Untitled 2020 ーfrom the series Green and White Paintingsー” on view now at the Virtual Booth(B-16).
It’s included 37 participating artists from 18 countries in the Art Fair.
Admission free.

P.S.
I found such an online exhibition to be a great solution in this difficult situation of the COVID-19 pandemic.
So, please imagine and follow what I’m thinking about right now.

There is a small gallery in the forest…,
The walls of the gallery are green…,
The season is spring…,
A lot of butterflies are flying in the garden…,
Many flowers are in full bloom…,
New green leaves are very beautiful…,
And when you open the door of the gallery, you can hear the sound of a doorbell.
Then, you can find a mysterious cat at the entrance…,
And the cat guides you through the rooms…,
My artworks are hung on the walls…,
You can see the paintings and labels well by clicking…,
There is a small sofa in the living room…,
And you can also drink a cup of tea/coffee there…,
There is a donation box at the exit, and if you like this solo show, you can donate voluntarily.
Of course, you are free to choose whether to donate or not.
But now the artists are in this pandemic, have no income and their lives are very difficult, so the donations will help their lives.

Then, I have already considered the autumn version of this gallery.
It means, my idea is to hold a solo exhibition at this gallery in the forest at least twice a year, in spring and autumn.
Unfortunately, I don’t have this kind of computer technology, so I would be very happy if anyone could create such a virtual gallery.
I would like to work with him/her, and we do it all virtually!
It’s my current projects and inspiration.
