どうして世の中には、なるほど、いかにも、ごもっともという、
エンターテイメント系の動画がこんなにも多いのでしょうか。
「主人公の繊細な感情の見事な表現である」とか。
主人公の繊細な感情なんて要らない。
何故って人は誰でも皆すでに繊細だからです。
普段、絵画という平面上の格闘をしている身からすれば、
写真やましてや動画を使えば、もっと「普通」のまともな表現が
可能になるはずだという強い思いがあります。
そんな訳で動画を撮り始めました。
これは僕にとって新しい一つの試みであり挑戦です。
タイトルシリーズの一つDes Choses Sans Importance は、
Jean Gabin とFrançoise Arnoul の大好きな映画「ヘッドライト」(邦題)の
原題Des Gens Sans Importance からつけました。
直訳すると「重要性のない人々」、重要でない人々、大したことのない人々、
転じて、とるにたりない人々といったところでしょうか。
とるにたりない物事の中にこそ真実が静かに毅然と潜んでいます。
フランス語の勉強を始めた頃、この原題を知りヘッドライトが
作中で重要な役割を果たしているにせよ、
文化の彼我の差を痛感した思い出があります。
「重要性のない人々」では興行にならないのでしょうか？
でもここは芸術の踏ん張りどころ、
ストレートにタイトルをつけるからこそ魂を揺さぶられるのです。
また並行してA crowd of twisted things のシリーズを計画しています。
こちらはT.S.Eliot のRhapsody on a Windy Night の中の一行から発想しました。
これにはもう純粋にしびれ切りました。
「山ほどのねじれた物たち」くらいの意でしょうか。
この詩を読んで以来、twisted things は集められるとずっと思ってきました。
この2つのシリーズに「神社と土着信仰、そして村の墓」のシリーズを加えた
3本立て構成を考えています。
僕の北軽井沢 作品 No.299, No.300 にすでに出てきたテーマであり、
以前より特別な興味・関心をもち続けてきた内容です。
そしてこれら3つのシリーズの全体のタイトルをUntitled Sketches として
まとめていくという構想です。
これに写真が加わってくる可能性もあります。
まずは手持ちの一番粗末な機材でスタートします。
詩人のズボンの膝小僧にはいつも穴があいているように。
僕は例えば素晴らしい画質の動画を撮ることに関心がありません。
僕にとってのテーマや問題は、機材や画質にはないのです。
記念すべき？第1回は「神社と土着信仰、そして村の墓」シリーズから始めます。
ああ、どうしてこの地域にはこんなにも神社が多いのでしょう。
ああ、どうしてこの地域の集落の墓はこんなにも美しいのでしょう。
亡くなった人の集合体である墓というものが、
どうしてこれ程までに圧倒的に僕の心の中に訴えかけてくるのでしょうか。

皆様、こんにちは。
10月3日からスペインのマドリッドで25カ国からアーティストが参加して、
国際展覧会“Unique Realities”が始まりました。
この展覧会は僕にとって個展・グループ展を合わせて36回目の展覧会になりますが、様々な事情から会場に足を運ぶことができなかった初めての展覧会になりました。
代表のPaolaさんが忙しい合間を縫って送って下さったオープニングの写真からは、参加者の熱気や会場のAteneo de Madrid の盛り上がりが伝わってきました。
実はマドリッドは、2002年に3ヶ月滞在した思い出の地で、僕のヨーロッパ体験の出発点でもあります。プラド美術館のゴヤの「マドリード、1808年5月2日、3日」の連作やベラスケス、ソフィア王妃芸術センターのピカソのゲルニカにどれだけ衝撃を受けたことだろう。やがて僕は同じ年に今度はメキシコに移動し、1ヶ月間サン・ミゲル・デ・アジェンデの美術学校に通いながら、とうとう絵画を始めることになるのでした。
なお、“Unique Realities”は10月15日まで続きます。
この後僕は11月下旬からイタリアのボローニャで国際展覧会、
12月にニューヨークでクリスマスシーズンに合わせたグループ企画展があります。ニューヨークの展覧会では参加アーティストの総売上高の10%がChildren Heart Foundation に寄付されます。

Hello, everyone!
An International Art Exhibition;“Unique Realities” began at Sara Prado and Espacio Prado, Ateneo de Madrid in Madrid, Spain from 3rd October, 2017. Fifty artists from 25 countries participated in the exhibition this year. This exhibition will continue until 15th October.
Actually, for me, Madrid was a memorable place that I stayed for three months in 2002, and it is also the starting point of my European experience. I wonder how much shock was received by Goya’s two works; The Third of May 1808 and The Second of May 1808 at the Museo del Prado, and Picasso’s Guernica at Museo Reina Sofia. And in the same year I went to Mexico this time and finally started painting while attending an art school of San Miguel de Allende for a month.
After this, I will participate in an International Art Exhibition in Bologna, Italy from late November and a group exhibition in New York in December.
